After four weeks of rest and repairs to the Abby Normal in Demopolis, AL, the crew decided it was finally time to complete the last leg of their journey from La Crosse, WI to the Gulf of Mexico. Although it rained most of the day Thanksgiving day, the crew of the Abby Normal was in good spirits and eager to once again begin their journey.
Day 69 - Sunday, November 30, 2003
After more than 200 miles of travel since leaving Demopolis, AL and traveling again down the TenTom Waterway to the Mobile River, the Abby Normal and her intrepid crew arrived late Saturday at the beautiful Grand Mariner Marina on Mobile Bay in Mobile, AL. Here they stayed the night and met a friendly sailboat captain that shared his marine charts of Florida's panhandle, which included charts of the waters from Mobile to Pensacola. Intent upon reaching the Gulf by the 1st of December, Captain Walt is now eager to depart the calm and cool waters of Mobile Bay early Monday morning. His next goal is to reach Pensacola, FL by sunset on Tuesday. Their spirits buoyed by the success of their 1600 mile journey to the Gulf, Walt and Carol are already wondering what lies ahead, beyond the shores of Pensacola.
This heartwarming story of hope, faith, and love chronicles an American couple's adventure that began 10 years ago with an inspiring dream. The series documents their hard work and faith that culminated in the fulfillment of this romantic journey down North America's longest river to the Gulf of Mexico.
